For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Honda Prologue have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The BMW iX doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Honda Prologue are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW iX doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Honda Prologue achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The BMW iX has not been tested.

Both the Prologue and the iX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

Honda’s powertrain warranty covers the Prologue 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than BMW covers the iX. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the iX ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 3 times as many Honda dealers as there are BMW dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Prologue’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Honda vehicles are better in initial quality than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Honda above average in initial quality. With 17 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Honda vehicles are more reliable than BMW vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Honda fourth in overall reliability. BMW is ranked 8th.

On the EPA test cycle the Prologue gets better mileage than the iX:

For better traction, the Prologue has larger standard tires than the iX (255/60R19 vs. 235/60R20).

The Honda Prologue’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The BMW iX only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Prologue has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The iX doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the Prologue can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The iX doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Prologue’s wheelbase is 3.7 inches longer than on the iX (121.8 inches vs. 118.1 inches).

For better maneuverability, the Prologue’s turning circle is 2.4 feet tighter than the iX’s (39.6 feet vs. 42 feet).

The Honda Prologue may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 600 to 650 pounds less than the BMW iX.

The Prologue is 3.5 inches shorter than the iX, making the Prologue easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Prologue has 1.2 inches more front legroom and .5 inches more rear legroom than the iX.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Prologue. The iX doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Honda service is better than BMW. J.D. Power ranks Honda 7th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 5% lower rating, BMW is ranked 10th.

The Prologue Elite has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The iX doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Prologue is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The iX doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

The Honda Prologue outsold the BMW iX by almost two to one during 2024.
